The last kerfuffle (or was it the one before that? I'm losing track), which involved people who were not familiar with some of CM's ongoing jokes and conventions, especially those connected with images, interpreting them out of context, got me thinking about how the RGM might respond if someone new to CM read one of Strelnikov's more colorful comments in isolation, and demanded the RGM alert the FBI (or CIA, or Interpol, or some arcane but appropriate agency so secret I haven't even heard of it). Then I opened up the comics to find that Stephan Pastis of Pearls Before Swine had begun a story line about an East Coast/West Coast Cartoonist's War, and I had my answer: the RGM can explain that Strelnikov is our Guard Duck.
Nominations for other parallels are welcome, but please keep in mind my late Irish grandfather's favorite saying, oft-quoted to me by my mother: "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." [Okay, so CM would go toes-up very quickly if we kept to that advice all of the time, but maybe for the moment, at least in referring to and/or addressing each other?]
I fear Strelnikov.

ReplyDeleteIf anything could get me to uncloak, it's invoking Pearls, the EC/WC war, & Guard Duck so as to relate it all to the latest internecine dustup.
