Things are Crazzy At NW Mizzou State.

Yesterday Cassandra posted the tweet from a wannabe faculty rifleman from NW Missouri State. (She and Stella both wondered if it might have been Strelnikov, and I can assure you it is not.)

Then today I saw this faculty note from the same school. What the fuck is going on there in Maryville, MO?

Instructor Matt Rouch has been charged with manufacturing a controlled substance as well as other miscellaneous charges by Nodaway County Sheriff's Department, according to Darren White, Nodaway County Sheriff.

Northwest announced in a statement at 4 p.m. Friday that Rouch has been placed on "administrative leave pending the outcome of a University investigation." They will investigate whether Rouch violated University policies that could lead to discipline up to termination. Rouch is prohibited from entering University property at this time.

As of 5:45 Friday evening, University Police were searching the office of Rouch. It is unclear at this time if any evidence was recovered.

A search warrant was executed and several marijuana plants as well as packages "that would indicate someone was in the business for selling" were found at the home of Rouch, White said.

Rouch, 57, is being charged with a Class-B felony as well as a Class-C felony. He was released on bond of $25,000, or a surety bond. He has an arranged court date of Oct. 8, which will be his arraignment.

The Class-B felony was for the manufacturing of marijuana, which can lead to 5-15 years in prison. The Class-C felony for possession of at least 35 grams can lead to 2-7 years in prison or pay $5,000, according to Prosecuting Attorney Bob Rice.

    1. I does rather sound like there's a satellite CM compound in Missouri, doesn't it?

  3. Sounds like another proffie meltdown, which is always sad.

I'm a bit puzzled, though, by the idea of "manufacturing" marijuana. Doesn't one grow it? Or is there some new fancy genetic engineering process that I haven't heard of, and that counts as manufacturing?

Finally, I must say that NW Missouri State seems to have a pretty decent student newspaper. I see one punctuation and one spelling error, but also decent integration of quotations and good emulation of journalistic organization and style. The editorial that started things off was nicely done, too.

  4. That phrasing about "manufacturing" marijuana caught my eye too.

Y'all do realize that both news items are about the same guy, right? How odd that Matthew Rouch, 57, both grows pot and fantasizes being a school-tower sniper. Maybe he should smoke more of his product.
