CONGRATS TO OUR FRIEND AMELIA! We Are So Going To Party In Abilene Tonight! You Know, In a Sort of Metaphorical Way.

So Dr. Amelia, she of non-existent tenure, is henceforth to be known as Dr. Amelia, the tenured.

The power...how to use it...

She thinks it is best to follow the path forged by our friend Yaro. She will take two days to celebrate, for sure, but then will get back to work and will use her newfound freedom to make the flakies better, in the ways that they need, but with kindness. For she would not have endured in academia for this long had she no regard for those in her charge. She really does want the best for them that they will accept.

First, she has some papers to grade.

  1. GLORY be to God for dappled things—
    For skies of couple-colour as a brinded cow;
    For rose-moles all in stipple upon trout that swim;
    Fresh-firecoal chestnut-falls; finches’ wings;
    Landscape plotted and pieced—fold, fallow, and plough; 5
    And áll trádes, their gear and tackle and trim.

    All things counter, original, spare, strange;
    Whatever is fickle, freckled (who knows how?)
    With swift, slow; sweet, sour; adazzle, dim;
    He fathers-forth whose beauty is past change:
    Praise him.

    [I'm a little drunk, and have a Ph.D. in English. Congratulations, and use it wisely. For all we know, we may be the last generation of tenured professors to stand against the decline of western civilization.]

    1. Drunk or sober, I like your choice of celebratory poetry. That's one of my favorites.

  4. Hurrah!!!!! Excellent news for all involved!

    I like "the best for them that they will accept." That's well-said (and evidence that the tenure decision was well-made).

    Hope the grading goes quickly, and you get to celebrate soon.

  5. It's much like getting the Ph.D. You celebrate for a day, then realize you're pretty much the same as you always were.

    Congrats though!

    1. Pretty much the same. But with more job security.

      That in itself is worth a drink or two. Congratulations!
