Blood in the Classroom

Look Ma!  Both hands!
Just how interactive is your class?  Do you have students come to the board to work problems?  Do they complain about that to the Dean?

Apparently, one northern California professor has sparked some controversy when he had two of his students get just a bit too interactive.  Read about the incident here.

Bonus:  The instructor should shave.  What do you think?

  1. Oh, whew. I thought it was going to be about my physics department, where we demonstrate pressure = force/area by having people lie down on a bed of nails. The first time anyone does this, everyone is amazed at the wonder of science. The second time, they want to avoid it, since it is so goddamn painful.

  2. This controvery is overblown. The desks were arranged around the fight area in an octogon shape. I don't know what else anybody could expect.

    1. And to be honest, if you don't know how to injure students without leaving evidence then you're probably not cut out for this line of work.

  3. They weren't even students...they were former students. Give 'em an honorarium and move on.

  4. This shouldn't even be a news story. It's ridiculous. Rather than asking about the blood (since that was purely accidental), one might question the reason for the demonstration in a COMM class, but the students were engaged and active-learning was taking place. Why is this even a deal?
