The Adventures of Molly...

Hi. Apologies up front. This is a "groaner," an actual line my late father said to me one day. He was a smashing fellow who never missed a chance to try and make me laugh at all the things I was SO serious about...  This is for you, Stan...

  1. I'd like to see more of what happens to Molly here!

  2. I've been around long enough to know that fairly soon someone will say something incredibly insulting to Molly and we'll lose her. Like the Buddhist with the "broken" glass, we'll have to enjoy Molly for the time she's here.

    1. Molly says:

Oh, Hiram, I have pretty tough skin. If I enjoy it and a few others do, I'll do it for a while. I strangely feel more centered and brave now that the fake Molly exists. I'm taking my lead from her!

    2. I've been holding my breath. I'm so glad that some people's desire to belittle those who contribute to this community in meaningful ways didn't scare you off.

  3. I always wished the committee was named Tenure & Ascension. Not only would "ascension" be appropriate since it means climbing higher or reaching Heaven (tenure) without dying, it would be the T&A committee. That would get lots of people to volunteer, though I'd join just for tacos and pizza.

  4. I am glad to see Molly's comics. I used to love Samantha Folkchurch's (I think?) drawings when I first discovered CM.

    1. I, too, loved Sam Folkchurch's cartoons, and would love to have more (in addition to the adventures of Molly -- ideally, I want a whole comic page's worth of cartoons with varying styles and schticks; I'm greedy that way. And yes, I'm one of those people who begins reading the paper with the comics page.)

  5. The Stans of the world are disappearing. Those folks with their groaners (my aunt Therese was one) always made me feel a part of some kind of homespun world.

    1. I can think of one at least one person of approximately my (middle) age who is given to bad puns (and other bad jokes of similar sorts). But yes, the tradition does seem to be waning. Maybe you have to be literate to play around with the language that way?

    2. Here's one I tell my students just to make them groan: Why was the Middle Ages called the Dark Ages? Because there were so many knights!
      Yuk, yuk.

I enjoy Molly's cartoons. I had to stop reading Dilbert because it's just too painfully close to the truth most of the time. These are refreshing--thanks for posting them!
