    I don't always fail my students, but when I do, It's because they didn't earn enough points to pass.

      There are no failed students, only failed instructors.

      (BTW, I am thinking about applying for deanships...)

      I don't always ignore the professors in my charge, but when I do, it's to over-ride the grades of students who email me directly.
