The Big Thirsty: Pure Evil.

Q: We all have had bad colleagues, petty, pissy, and prickly. But have you ever had a colleague who was pure evil?

  1. I certainly do. He's astonishingly creepy, with a thick German accent and the air about him of a child molester. He thinks that junior faculty should be put through some kind of fraternity hazing: the idea of helping them is quite alien to them. It's all I can do not to put a stake through his heart and bury him at a crossroads, with his mouth stuffed with holy wafers. With any luck, he'll retire soon, although he's been in the early retirement program for years now.

  2. I do not know what is in the heart of any man, not even me.

  3. Why am I so surprised at the two smart asses? I guess Ben is not awake yet.

  4. I have no purely evil colleagues, but my colleagues do.

  5. I was wondering, as I thought about this, what percentage of the population are sociopaths. Google tells me (actually, the Daily Beast) that the answer to that is four percent of the population. With that in mind, we all run into sociopaths every now and again. But I still think most people tell themselves a personal story that excuses their actions, explains them, makes them seem positive, understandable, acceptable, even necessary.

A truly evil person will not do that, will take pleasure in stirring things up, ruining things, causing trouble.

I have encountered people like this, but I don't believe I have any at my current job. So I guess I should feel fortunate!!

    1. Evilness requires self-awareness. I think you are off the hook.

    2. Is it I who am pure evil, but impurely conjugated? Would it were. Or is it not? Already. Nevertheless.

    3. If you are a verb on my highschool Latin test, then you were probably improperly conjugated. Sorry about that.

  7. She's more batshit crazy than evil, so it is kinda hard to tell if some of the evil is just batshit crazy shining through in an evil way.

    1. I've got one of those, as well.
Not content with stealing ideas, then presenting them as her own, but follows up by tossing the originator under a bus for some fancied transgression, just to be sure she is seen as the shining light in the program.
Bursts into tears when offered even the most diplomatically delivered criticism, and continues until all present go into group hug mode. Accepts their apologies gracefully.

  10. I had one. I got a job she thought she should have had, and she would have thrown me under a bus to remedy the situation. She gossiped, back stabbed, sabotaged, even attempted to damage my marriage.

I'm still here. She's not. [Holsters pistol].
